Competition: Predictive cyber analytics
This Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) competition seeks proposals for novel approaches to predictive cyber security to address challenges in defence and/or security DASA are interested in proof-of-concept technologies with a view to, in the longer term, developing a deployable solution. Primarily for defence, this would be to detect and counter future cyber threats thus reducing the likelihood and impact. Total funding of up to Β£1 million is available in Phase 1 of this competition. We anticipate funding around 5 to 10 proof-of-concept research projects of up to 6 months in duration. Assessment process and criteria
This guidance explains our competition process and how your proposal is assessed. At UKDI , we have a very thorough process for deciding which proposals to fund. The below guidance sets out our full competition process including the guidance given to our assessors to assess proposals. Competition process The competition process is made up of 10 stages. 1. Competition opens All competitions are launched on our UKDI Competition Services page. Sign up to the UKDI Mailing List Be the first to hear about new competitions, upcoming events and other UKDI news. To join the UKDI Mailing List, please complete the short sign up form here 2. Proposal submission The only way to submit a proposal to UKDI is online via the UKDI online submission service. Log in or register for an account . Some tips to help with your submission: before submitting your proposal, check the terms and conditions carefully to ensure that you agree with all of them. You may wish to check them with your commercial or legal department. Please read the Open Call terms and conditions here . The terms and conditions for a themed competition can be found within the competition document. draft your proposal offline to avoid losing material when submitting online be concise. Each assessor should be able to read, understand and assess your proposal within 1 hour and 30 minutes, unless otherwise stated in the competition document. Use the text boxes provided in the application form and look out for the word limits attachments are limited to .png, .jpg, or.jpeg files only. Please provide full answers on the (Desirable/Feasible/Viable) criteria for your Innovation in the boxes provided. Proposals received with Desirable/Feasible/Viable answers provided as attachments will be considered non-compliant and sifted out of the competition. only click submit when your proposal is complete. Pre sift Once you have submitted your proposal, it will pass through an initial pre-sift process. Assessment After the initial sifting process, experts from across UK government will be assigned to assess your proposal. When people outside of UK Government are used for assessment, it will be under a non-disclosure agreement and details will be provided in advance in the relevant competition document. During the assessment phase all proposals are assessed against the following criteria: desirable: strategic fit, end user support/pull (letters of support not required) feasible: technical credibility, innovation, risk, expertise of team/capability viable: costs and value for money, project delivery/plan Further guidance on assessment criteria is listed below . 6. Moderation After assessment, a moderator will compile an overview, pulling together comments to provide a collective outcome in the form of a βFundβ or βNo Fundβ recommendation against the proposal. 7. Challenge Stakeholders/moderators are invited to challenge the βFundβ or βNo Fund recommendation made against each proposal. Challengers present their argument both in written form for circulation and at the decision conference. 8. Decision conference The decision conference brings key stakeholders together to review proposal recommendations in line with competition delivery, including challenged recommendations. The moderator comments are presented and any challenges reviewed. At the conclusion of the conference, a final decision is made on whether each proposal will be funded. Innovators are not permitted to attend. 9. Decision release Youβll be able to track the progress of your application on your dashboard. Youβll be notified by email when weβve made a decision on whether or not to fund your proposal. If you are successful, our commercial team will be in touch shortly after the decision date to begin contracting. Once you are on contract, both UKDI staff and a Technical Partner will support and advise you throughout the period of your project. 10. Feedback release If you are unsuccessful, you will receive brief written feedback within a few weeks of the applicable decision date. Feedback will be made available to you via email. Feedback is prepared by the proposal moderator, and is based on comments from all assessors and discussions at the decision conference. The feedback will give the main reasons why your proposal was unsuccessful. Please note that every UKDI competition has a finite financial limit which affects the number of bids we can fund. Where a proposal meets the fundable requirements for a competition, but is not funded, UKDI will continue to seek funding and shall consider your proposal fundable for 12 months from the date of the feedback release. We will share the abstract, Proposal Value Proposition Statement (PVPS) and title of your proposal with partners across His Majestyβs Government that may express an interest in funding the proposal through UKDI , in accordance with the competition document. We may also share this information on our cross-government Ideas Marketplace platform to foster collaboration and attempt to elicit funding. If partners across His Majestyβs Government wish to read the full proposal to decide if they will fund it, we will share the full proposal with them without seeking your permission if it is within 60 days of the feedback release date. If it is over 60 days since the feedback release date we will seek your permission before sharing the full proposal with them. For other potential funders, we will seek your permission before sharing the full proposal regardless of the number of days since the feedback release date. In the event that additional funding becomes available, UKDI may ask whether you would still be prepared to undertake the work outlined in your proposal under the same terms. Your official UKDI feedback will indicate if your proposal was deemed fundable, but not awarded funding at the time. Assessment criteria UKDI uses three baseline assessment criteria; desirable, feasible and viable. The baseline criteria apply to all our competitions, unless stated in the competition document. It is important to note that criteria may be adjusted across competitions in accordance with the needs of Government customers, any criteria changes will be clearly detailed within the competition document. You should check the specific guidance that is provided within the competition document on the UKDI Competition Services page. New competition: The Invisible Battlespace
The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) is launching a new competition focusing on the contested electromagnetic environment. We are looking for ideas from the private sector and academia to help solve how UK Defence could take a radically different approach to conducting operations across or within the increasingly congested and contested electromagnetic environment. This themed competition is focused on ideas on radio and microwave bands, offering Β£1 million available in Phase 1 with additional funding available for future phases. This competition supports the Contested Electromagnetic Environment Programme with Dstl to develop new concepts in the electromagnetic environment to ensure the UK is prepared for future opportunities and threats. Innovative approaches are needed to ensure our Armed Forces and Security Services arenβt disadvantaged as the electromagnetic environment becomes more cluttered and challenging; for example, with radio wave interference. The known reliance of many military systems on the this spectrum makes it an attractive target for our adversaries. This competition is now open. Competition: predictive cyber analytics phase 2
Β£850k is available to new and existing applications for Phase 2 of DASA's Predictive Cyber Analytics competition The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) is interested in technologies that can provide a proactive cyber defence capability in MODβs fixed and deployed military environments to help counter and defeat future cyber threats. This second phase seeks to further develop and enhance novel predictive approaches within the military cyber security domain. The work will allow MOD to better prepare for, respond to and mitigate the impact of cyber-attack. Total funding of up to Β£850k is available in Phase 2 of this competition. Competition: Stopping it in its tracks
This new Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) competition is seeking novel approaches to stopping or impeding tanks and other heavy armoured vehicles on the battlefield. This Defence and Security Accelerator ( DASA ) competition seeks proposals for novel approaches to stopping or impeding tanks and other heavy armoured vehicles while preventing or minimising collateral damage. We hope to achieve this through harnessing advances in engineering, design, materials science, computing and non-kinetic weapons. We welcome proposals relating to physical barriers or effects (such as traps and rapid ways to build them, or interference with wheels and tracks). We are also interested in invisible barriers or effects such as non-kinetic (non-explosive) weapons which could slow or disable vehicles such as those employing electromagnetic pulse ( EMP ) or sonic based methods. Approaches that disable the targetβs ability to fight are also acceptable. We are not interested in any explosive-based solutions such as anti-tank mines or solutions involving direct or indirect fire weapons. The primary focus of this competition is defence, but we are also interested in technologies that have wider security applications. Technologies that address a similar capability requirement within the civil sector, such as preventing vehicle-related terrorist attacks, will be considered if they are demonstrated to be effective against military class vehicles and capable of being deployed in a wide range of operational environments related to defence. DASA are interested in proof-of-concept technologies in Phase 1 of this competition with the aim of using subsequent phases to further develop the technologies and integrate them into deployable solutions. In the longer term, potential solutions should be capable of being scaled-up for deployment over large battlefield areas, be passive and be autonomous or semi-autonomous. Total funding of up to Β£1 million is available in Phase 1 of this competition from which we anticipate funding around 10 projects. This competition aims to identify and develop novel, early stage research ideas that may have a significant and disruptive impact on the future of Defence. A disruptive impact is something that radically alters how we do things β this can be positive (e.g. a new capability becomes available) or negative (e.g. a new type of threat arises). This competition is funded by the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory ( Dstl ). The outcome of this competition is anticipated to be a pool of novel Science and Technology ( S&T ) ideas / concepts that may be disruptive. These ideas / concepts may be used as the basis for further research within the Defence Science and Technology Futures Programme ( DSTF ) Programme. What innovations are we looking for? We are interested in novel, very low Technical Readiness Level ( TRL ) S&T ideas which could in the future either benefit Defence or form the basis of countering an adversarial threat. This Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) competition is seeking proposals for innovative technologies for communications, networking and information services, with an emphasis on the challenges that are specific to defence. This competition is part of a phased campaign being run in support of the Dstl Communications and Networks Programme. The scope includes the development of new physical layers, networking and information layer concepts and protocols, as well as cross-cutting aspects such as inter-layer interactions, network management approaches, and the impact of novel information assurance technologies. We are particularly interested in proposals that address the challenges specific to the defence context and hence are less likely to be satisfied by technologies directly lifted from the civil world. Defence and Security Accelerator enduring competition
The Defence and Security Accelerator's enduring competition for research funding accepts innovative proposals to a wide range of challenges. The enduring competition, previously run by the Centre for Defence Enterprise ( CDE ) was paused on 25 October 2016. This pause was to allow the transition of CDE into the early operating capability of the new Defence and Security Accelerator - announced by Secretary of State for Defence, Sir Michael Fallon, on 16 September 2016 as part of the defence innovation initiative. The new Accelerator will focus on exploiting novel solutions, and weβre taking the opportunity to reshape the enduring competition to meet this. The enduring competition will continue to look for proposals that challenge our thinking and not iterative developments of current technologies. It will provide some direction on what MODβs enduring research challenges are, while still remaining open to all highly innovative ideas that challenge existing conventions and have a high potential benefit for the defence and security end user. New Behavioural Analytics Competition Scoping Workshop
The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) is launching a new Behavioural Analytics competition scoping workshop on 13 September 2018 This DASA competition seeks innovative solutions to how the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and partners across Defence and Security can unlock the potential to understand human behaviour from the estimated 2.5 quintillion bytes a day of user uploaded data using βbehavioural analyticsβ. DASA will be holding a workshop on 13 September 2018 where stakeholders can help shape the scope of the new Behavioural Analytics competition. If you would like the opportunity to participate, please register your interest . Further details are included in the workshop document found here. The competition will see over Β£5 million of funding committed to innovation in this space, over a 26 month period, in a number of phases. We are interested in a range of multi and interdisciplinary approaches (such as social, computer, neuro and info sciences) and would welcome interest from any organisation including academia, SMEs, and primes. Places for the event are limited and so please register as early as possible to secure a place. If the event is oversubscribed, we may place a limitation on the number of attendees from a single organisation. The competition is focused on new solutions to the challenge of vehicle checkpoint ( VCP ) screening at airports, in order to prevent explosives, weapons and other threats from accessing the secure airside area. The competition has an initial budget of Β£1 million to fund a mixture of low and mid-level TRL proposals. The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) is pleased to announce the launch of a new competition on metasurfaces for defence and security. This themed competition is seeking proposals for innovative solutions that will pull ideas from recent breakthroughs in metasurface science into products. The competition is aimed at the private sector and academia who can harness electromagnetic hardware. DASA are particularly interested in novel metasurfaces and manufacturing technologies to integrate them in to platforms. Up to Β£500,000 is available for phase 1 of this competition. Additional funding of up to Β£500,000 may be available for phase 2. DASA will be encouraging collaboration between academia and industry. The competition is now open. This new Defence and Security Accelerator ( DASA ) competition is seeking novel approaches to stopping or impeding tanks and other heavy armoured vehicles on the battlefield while minimising collateral damage. DASA welcomes proposals relating to physical barriers or effects (such as traps and rapid ways to build them) as well as invisible barriers or effects (including electromagnetic and other non-explosive technologies). Systems for defence utility and with potential security applications, including those for urban deployment, are also welcome. Up to Β£1 million of funding is available in Phase 1 of this competition to fund proof-of-concept solutions. Data Integration Competition scoping workshop
The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) is intending to run a competition on Data Integration in the Defence Logistics environment. The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) is interested in finding innovative solutions to how the Ministry of Defence (MOD) accesses, integrates, exploits and utilises its data in an easier, more cost effective and flexible way. To aid competition development, DASA is holding a workshop on 28 November 2018 where stakeholders/suppliers can learn more about the problem space and help shape the scope of the competition. More details on the aims of the workshop are included in the Data Integration workshop document . If you would like the opportunity to participate, please register your interest here . We welcome interest from any organisation including academia and industry. Places for the event are limited and so please register early to secure a place. Phase 2 of this competition is seeking novel approaches to stopping or impeding tanks and other heavy armoured vehicles on the battlefield This Defence and Security Accelerator ( DASA ) competition seeks proposals for novel approaches to stopping or impeding tanks and other heavy armoured vehicles while preventing or minimising collateral damage. We hope to achieve this through harnessing advances in engineering, design, materials science, computing and non-kinetic weapons. We welcome proposals relating to physical barriers / effects (such as traps and rapid ways to build them, or interference with wheels and tracks). We are also interested in invisible barriers / effects such as non-kinetic (non-explosive) weapons which could slow or disable vehicles (such as those employing electromagnetic pulse (EMP) or sonic based methods). Approaches that disable the targetβs ability to fight are also acceptable. We are not interested in any explosive-based solutions such as anti-tank mines or solutions involving direct or indirect fire weapons. The primary focus of this competition is defence, but we are also interested in technologies that have wider security applications. Technologies that address a similar capability requirement within the civil sector, such as preventing vehicle-related terrorist attacks, will be considered if they are demonstrated to be effective against military class vehicles and capable of being deployed in a wide range of operational environments related to defence. This is the second phase addressing this theme. Both phase 1 existing suppliers and new suppliers are welcome to apply. Competition: bioprocessing waste into reusable products
This Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) competition seeks proposals for novel and innovative approaches to develop a Bioprocessing Prototype System to recycle military waste, oils, fuel and other liquid waste, into reusable products. Following a successful Industry Day at Brize Norton on 1 October, it was evident from feedback received that further information contained in safety data sheets would assist in the completion of bids. Therefore these have been made available as an additional appendix under βdocumentsβ. We are looking to develop a system that can aid the recycling of waste fuel, oils, lubricants and other liquid chemicals to enable the Ministry of Defence (MOD) to manage its own waste on-site and produce reusable by-products to the benefit of the environment. This competition seeks to develop a prototype bioprocessing solution. The innovation should include the development of an energy powered bioprocessing system, the appropriate microbe mixes to break the waste down and the ability to capture the by-products for reuse. Bidders can address all three aspects or individual aspects, provided they can show a joined up capability with the other areas. Phase 1 of this competition has approx. Β£1 million available to fund 3-5 proposals. Additional funding is anticipated to be available for future phases of this competition. This Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) competition is seeking proposals to develop and demonstrate a number of novel technologies or applications in the area of Electro-Optics and Infrared (EOIR) to address the future need for highly capable and affordable sensors. EOIR sensors are a key military capability used for surveillance, reconnaissance, target acquisition, threat warning, target detection and more. The ever evolving nature of military operations means that we wish to invest in novel and resilient technologies that can function in contested/congested environments, that will extend the range, lower the cost and size, and expand the range of targets that can be addressed by EOIR sensors. Total funding of Β£2.5m is expected to be available over 2 phases to fund multiple projects in each phase. This competition is expected to open in August 2019. This DASA competition, for the Future Aviation Security Solutions (FASS) Programme, is seeking innovation which can provide step changes to the current capabilities of screening and detection of dangerous, illicit and/or contraband items. As the aviation sector continues to expand, the range of threats to aviation also continues to evolve. This competition seeks to help the UK government, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and aviation industry to continue improving aviation security processes by staying ahead of evolving threats and maintaining a high level of confidence in threat detection while minimising the burden on passengers and aviation staff. This Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) competition seeks proposals for novel and innovative βPoint of Careβ (PoC) diagnostic technologies that provide information to enable clinicians to diagnose and treat individuals earlier and more effectively following exposure to biological or chemical agents. Following the successful completion of βPoint of Care Diagnostics at the Front Lineβ Phase 1 competition , Phase 2 will be looking for proposals to develop technology to Technology Readiness Level TRL 5. What innovations are we looking for? Disease caused by exposure to biological or chemical agents, represents a key issue for deployed personnel. Throughout the history of armed conflict, disease (regardless of source) has been a significant cause of morbidity and mortality among British forces that has led to reductions in the operational effectiveness of fighting elements. This issue remains current. The effective management and treatment of affected personnel remains a key challenge for the future where personnel may be deployed to parts of the world where endemic and emerging disease may be prevalent or subjected to the deliberate release of biological warfare (BW) or chemical warfare (CW) agents. Technologies that enable a rapid diagnosis of individuals exposed to biological or chemical agents are currently limited. They are also time-consuming, resource intensive, provide a limited identification capability and frequently rely on reaching back to laboratory facilities to achieve a higher confidence output. This challenge seeks to address this issue through the development of novel, enhanced PoC diagnostic devices which provide a result in a short time (c. 1 hour) and that can be used as close to the patient as possible (including in austere locations). Such devices will support clinicians to make informed, high confidence, diagnoses that optimise the management of affected individuals. Total funding available Β£1M (Exc. This competition is looking for Human Augmentation technologies that mitigate human performance as the limiting factor in a UK Defence environment As the battlefield becomes more complex and the demands on our personnel increase, in order to win tactical advantage Armed Forces personnel will have to out-think and out-pace their adversaries. If Human Augmentation (HA) technologies can be harnessed safely and ethically to develop enhanced levels of performance beyond that which can be achieved by innate talent, aptitude and learning, it is possible they could afford improvements in capability across the whole force. This Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) competition aims to develop safe and ethical, Generation-After-Next (GAN) prototype HA technologies that mitigate human performance as the limiting factor in a UK Defence environment. Suppliers will be invited to submit proposals to develop HA technologies to reduce human performance as the limiting factor in Defence scenarios. The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) Space Systems Programme is seeking proposals that can aid UK Defence and Security to develop future space science and technologies. The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) Space to Innovate Campaign was established in 2019 as an overarching space themed DASA competition. Progressing from the prior Space to Innovate Phase 1 and International Space Pitch Day competitions, the Space to Innovate Campaignβs two previous challenge drops, Alpha Drop and Bravo Drop, have furthered DASAβs space focus. Charlie drop follows on from this and offers a range of broader challenges to explore a greater range of novel science and technologies. What innovations are we looking for? Novel ways to achieve fine resolution collection for intelligence, surveillance & reconnaissance (ISR) Technologies and techniques to alert, protect and defend satellites Satellite and ground segment technologies for future Defence and Security operations Total funding available The total funding available for Charlie Drop is Β£1.5 million (excl VAT). We expect to fund between 3 and 12 proposals over a 24 month period. The initial Β£1.5 million for the Charlie Drop competition is funded by MOD Chief Scientific Adviser (CSA). Funding from other MOD or wider government stakeholders may become available over the duration of the competition; if so, this will be reflected in a revised version of the competition document. Proposals from Charlie Drop that are deemed to be βfundable not fundedβ will be available for funding by any UK government stakeholder up to one year after the outcome decision is released to bidders. For the purpose of this competition your bid may be shared with experts in other government departments. Follow-on work Once the initial contract is completed there will be a decision point where the Authority will decide whether it wishes to progress this work further. Follow-on work will be considered on its own individual merits and is not subject to further DASA competition processes. Any follow-on work will be contracted via costed options for one or more discrete, clearly bounded optional work packages up to a total of Β£4 million (excl VAT), built into the original DASA contract. As part of the proposal for the initial agreement, the supplier should include a deliverable for unspecified costed options that will not exceed a total of Β£4 million (excl VAT). This work, if funded, would be in addition to the funding required to deliver the initial work. The total value of the contract would thus be up to Β£4 million plus the value of the initial work, assuming all follow-on work was funded. Please note that suppliers should not include the costs of follow-on work in the finance table, but should only request costs that are for the initial project. All costed proposals for follow-on work should be valid for one year from their submission. The scope of work for any costed options must be within the technical scope of the original proposal. For the purposes of this competition no follow-on work should exceed Technical Readiness Level 6 (TRL 6). There is currently no funding allocated for follow-on work. Competition: Small, Lightweight Trace Explosives Detector
This DASA competition seeks novel, lightweight bioassay systems with novel transduction platforms for the detection of trace explosives. The purpose of this competition is to develop innovative platforms for the trace detection of explosives using biological assays. The output will be a small, lightweight platform that can be used for the detection of trace explosives or as a confirmation assay that could be used with other trace explosives detection methods. The size, weight and power (SWaP) and logistic burden of the desired platform will be similar to that of a pocket-sized presumptive test kit. The platform must be capable of multiplex detection of at least three specified targets initially, although the platform should be expandable to detect a wider range of targets (ideally up to 10) in one test in the future. This competition is funded by UK MOD and US DOD This competition is jointly funded by the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) and the US Department of Defense (DOD), the relationship will operate under and be governed by an extant memorandum of understanding (MOU) between both nations. Both the MOD and DOD will have access to proposals submitted under this competition in order to jointly assess which proposals to fund. What innovations are we looking for? A small, lightweight, low SWaP trace detection platform, which together with the consumables and swab-based sample input, will form part of a system that is capable of multiplex detection of at least three explosives targets (TNT, RDX, PETN) from one sample, with the ability to expand the number of available targets (ideally up to 10) in the future. Total funding available The total possible funding available for this competition is Β£600,000 (exc. VAT) for project(s) of up to 12 months duration. We expect to fund two proposals of up to Β£300,000 (exc. VAT) each in value. However, DASA reserves the right to fund one outstanding bid up to Β£600,000 (exc. Testing the limits: New Β£1 million Themed Competition launched
DASA has launched a new Themed Competition looking for innovations that can enhance the testing of drug drivers The Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) is pleased to launch a new Themed Competition called Mobile Evidential Drug Testing Instrument (MEDTI) Demonstrator . Run on behalf of the Department for Transport and with the support of the Home Office and Police, this competition is seeking proposals that enhance the testing of suspected βdrugβ drivers. Currently, drivers suspected of being over the specified limit for specified drugs can be subject to a roadside screening test, which following a positive indication, requires the subject to be taken to a police station where an evidential blood sample can be taken. The sample is then sent to an approved laboratory for forensic analysis. It can take many months to generate a formal conclusion able to determine if a prosecution should be launched. Roads Minister, Guy Opperman said: Whilst the UK has some of the safest roads in the world, we are always striving to work with the sector to develop new technology to crack down on drug driving. Our Β£1million investment for this competition marks another important step in improving road safety and championing innovation, and I look forward to seeing the ideas. We are seeking proposals with the aspiration to create a roadside forensic test capable of being administered at the time the driver is stopped and then generating a robust indication that meets UK court standards in a swift but sure manner. Ideally, a result would be obtained at the roadside within 10 minutes. The aspiration is to create a forensic test, meeting UK court standards, that is generated at the roadside at the time of a driver being stopped on suspicion of drug driving, or shortly afterwards in a police station based approach. The ultimate aim is the introduction of a test system to perform a drug test on a sample from a suspect with a hand-held, portable, rugged and simple to use device suitable for use by a police officer. The following examples give an indication of possible proposals: Smaller blood samples can be taken from subject using tools such as finger prick lancets which are used by diabetics to provide small blood samples (~1-10Β΅l) to test their blood glucose. In addition to lancets to aid blood collection, new technologies are coming though that both pierce the skin and collect the blood. Such devices may very well lend themselves to the role of blood collection at the roadside and may be an option for some other than a forensic medical examiner taking the blood. The use of oral fluid taken at a roadside and then sent for fast time evidential testing may also offer a potential future development as part of this competition. Funded projects are expected to achieve at least Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 5, 6 or 7 by the end of the contract. Competition Document: Contemporary Deception for the British Army
This Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) competition is run on behalf of the British Army. Project APATE - the Greek goddess or spirit of deceit, deception, guile, and fraud - seeks industry and academia to identify and develop new (novel) deception technologies that could be exploited by the British Army to gain operational advantage and to aid the survivability of deployed UK Land Forces. The aim of Project APATE is to identify and develop novel deception (defined as a Feint; Demonstration, Ruse or Display), technologies that could be exploited to βhide the realβ or βshow the falseβ on Land operations, including the near-surface (0-10,000ft) and command and logistic hubs. The development of a deception capability for military application will enhance Survivability in a number of potential applications: Novel decoys of personnel, military activities, in-service platforms, systems and hubs that can deceive non-communications sensors and adversarial radar, including battlefield radars, at various ranges; and/or Developing novel technologies, or exploiting existing technologies in new/novel ways, to enhance survivability by reducing the likelihood of being There, Detected, Acquired and Engaged, in support of the survivability onion concept. By the proposal of new concepts for implementing battlefield deception that are a blend of deception technologies but tactically exploited through new thinking and the potential update to the Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs) of employing deception. How can the Army use deception in novel ways, by challenging the unconventional? To deceive in plain sight, to exploit the unexpected and gain the tactical advantage, if only momentarily. We encourage proposals where the innovation output is no higher than, Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 5. Successful proposals will be expected to validate their deception technology in a relevant environment. This could include validation against a range of representative sensor technologies in a formal tactical trials environment. An appropriate level of evidence will be required for solutions expected to exit at TRL 3 or 4. Competition: Innovation in dermal protection against liquid chemicals
This Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) competition is to develop technology providing dermal protection against liquid chemicals. Introduction This Defence and Security Accelerator ( DASA ) competition is seeking proposals that will address the challenge of developing a solution to the problem of providing dermal protection against liquid chemical contamination. We are interested in treatments, fabric design, novel constructions or any other approach that prevents the penetration of low surface tension liquids. The overall objective of this competition is to allow the manufacture of protective suits that meet the essential criteria against liquid and vapour given in NATO Standard AEP-72 Volume I - Recommended chemical, biological and TIC challenge levels. Additionally, products should meet the robustness testing detailed in βBS 8467:2006 - Protective clothing. Personal protective ensembles for use against chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear ( CBRN ) agents. Categorisation, performance requirements and test methodsβ. This competition is interested in solutions that move towards this goal. There are two separate Challenges in this competition. Proposals submitted under Challenge 1 should detail a programme of work to demonstrate basic liquid protection properties, with potential to be progressed further towards the specific chemical warfare protection requirements, specified in Challenge 2.
